When Adam first started working with us his blood pressure was high (hypertensive) and he was overweight. Adam’s assessment identified his fat mass was too high, he should have been stronger for his age and that his cardiovascular system was deconditioned.
Our action plan
Adam’s first few weeks focussed on introducing consistent physical activity through squat, push and pull resistance exercises and heart rate controlled aerobic exercise. Adam was quick to motivate himself and remained brilliantly consistent throughout the part of his programme. Phase two of this programme involved adding some hinge patterning exercises, where we focussed Adam’s ability to cope with lifting load. This laid the foundations for a stronger core and reduced injury risk as his strength and fitness improved. As part of this second phase, Adam was also able to progress from walking to running in his aerobic sessions.
Adam’s results
Now into the third phase of his programme, Adam’s resistance exercise has become more varied and complex to work on particular muscle groups and keep engagement high, which Adam admitted he has struggled with in the past. The aim is to form consistent habits in physical activity and develop muscle mass now so that when his weight is even further reduced, Adam can run easily and regularly.
Adam has lowered his blood pressure to consistently normal levels, removing the need for medication to manage it. His body mass has also reduced and stayed lower, totalling -8.0 kg so far.
Adam has achieved awesome results and the exciting prospect is how much further he can still go.
You only have to look at the numbers to see the huge success I've had at CP+R. The results are even better than I expected. That said, what can’t be easily measured is how much I've gained mentally and in quality of life. I was initially skeptical about whether I'd be able to continue or even maintain my results, but that has now passed as my confidence and a positive outlook continue to grow. It's exciting to imagine how much I can achieve. At the very least I'm hoping to be taken off my daily medication.
I'm so grateful to Liz, and the friendly and hard working staff at CP+R. I feel encouraged and challenged but most of all excited. I've been nudged and lightly bumped in my diet at a rate that feels unforced or changed so extremely that it's unsustainable. I think this is amazing. Finding that I look forward to running has been quite a shock too! The self-confidence and energy I've gained have been awesome and I've been able to fix my terrible sleep patterns of the past 20 years.
There are so many areas in which CP+R has helped me exceed all my expectations for myself. It has been a life-changing gift and one I feel very fortunate and incredibly thankful to have.
